Ritual Rattle

Clay Workshop

In this hands-on workshop, we’ll turn two simple pinch pots into a one-of-a-kind ceramic rattle. You’ll make two matching forms, fill them with tiny bits of dried clay to create the sound, seal them together, and add a comfortable handle.

No experience needed! Pinch pots are one of the oldest and most accessible ways to work with clay, and your hands are the most important tools you’ll need.

What You’ll Learn

  • Pinch two matching pots: Learn how to create two forms with even walls that fit neatly together.

  • Build the rattle: Join the pots, add ceramic trimmings for sound, seal the seam, and pierce the clay so air can escape during firing.

  • Add a handle: Create a simple wraparound handle that feels secure and natural in your hand.

  • Make it your own: Play with texture, symbols, surface decoration, or even experiment with the shape.

The process is part puzzle, part experiment, and part magic. Every rattle will sound a little different depending on its shape, size, and what’s inside.

For those who want to go deeper, we’ll also explore the rattle as an instrument of intention that can be used for meditation, personal ritual, grounding, calling in energy, or letting go of what no longer serves us.

By the end, you’ll have a handmade ceramic rattle that is completely your own, with its own unique sound and character.

This rattle is intended for ritual or personal use and is not a children's toy.

Please Note:

*Long nails are not recommended for the pinch pot technique.
