“Kangaroo” Vase

A pinch pot and coil building workshop

In this hands-on, beginner friendly workshop, we’ll take the classic vase and give it a playful twist: a large central belly for a full bouquet, plus a smaller front pocket designed to hold a single stem. Think of it as a kangaroo pouch, but for flowers!

We’ll build our vases entirely by hand using coils, learning how to stack and shape clay into a tall, sturdy form with a generous, rounded belly. Then we’ll add a small pocket to the front, exploring how to attach two forms together while keeping the whole piece balanced and stable.

Never built a large vessel before? No problem! This is a great opportunity to learn how to go big with clay without ever touching a pottery wheel. We’ll start with the familiar idea of a vase and gradually turn it into something sculptural, unexpected, and totally your own.

By the end of the workshop, you’ll have your own sculptural two-compartment vase, ready for a bouquet, a special single stem, or whatever floral arrangement makes you happy. No wheel required, just clay, curiosity, and a willingness to trust the process.
